Chinnar Munnar

Chinnar wildlife sanctuary is located in the rain shadow region of western ghats in Idukki district, adjoining Tamilnadu. This place is rich in a wide formation of original flora and fauna. Chinnar Sanctuary is one of the 12 protected areas of Kerala. This region is the best place for trekking, blessed with a wide range of habitats like dry thorn scrub, shoals, grasslands, and deciduous forests.

The vast sandalwood forest nearby the sanctuary is one of the major attractions. It consists of a variety of medicinal plants and its animal population includes grizzled giant squirrel, spotted deer, gaur, slender loris, wild elephant, tiger, leopard, Nilgiri Tahr and a recorded species of birds.

Chinnar is famous for the eco-tourism activities it includes river trekking, trek to thoovanam falls, treehouse at chinnar, trekking to the cultural site, etc. This region creates a unique ecosystem for attracting nature lovers and wildlife enthusiasts.
